‘They’re not interested’: Club will only sign £12m Chelsea player for free this summer – journalist
Journalist Simon Phillips has claimed that Barcelona will only sign Chelsea’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang if he is available for free.
He told GiveMeSport that while manager Xavi never wanted him to leave in the first place, they have no interest in paying money to bring him back.
It has been a dismal return to the Premier League for Aubameyang, who will have been hoping to enjoy a return to goalscoring in the most competitive league in the world.
However, there has been just one goal to shout about domestically, with him only adding two other strikes in the Champions League to his name.
They feel irrelevant now too, with the £12m man being booted out of the European squad in favour of three January signings.
Barcelona won’t pay for Aubameyang
He was recently seen celebrating a Barcelona win in the dressing room just a day after the Blues dropped points in the Premier League against Everton.
This reportedly near enough ended his time at Stamford Bridge, with rumours circulating of his next move.
Barcelona were the side strongest linked with a transfer, however Phillips has claimed that it would have to not include a transfer fee.
He said: “He’s obviously just been spotted over in Barcelona watching the El Clásico. I’ve been told for weeks now that he will definitely leave in the summer, without a doubt.
“Barcelona are certainly one club to watch where he might go. They’re pretty keen to bring him back. Xavi never wanted him to go in the first place, but they’re not interested in paying any money for him, really, unless it’s a very low fee.”
The Blues would be best of now cutting their losses, however big they are, and looking to the transfer market in the coming months in an attempt to address their goalscoring woes.
