Alan Shearer now reacts to Mauricio Pochettino potentially becoming Chelsea's next manager
Alan Shearer has said he can understand why Chelsea are reportedly looking to make Mauricio Pochettino their new permanent manager.
He told Match of the Day that the club need to secure the appointment as soon as possible in order to give him the best possible chance for next season.
Pochettino has emerged as the favourite for the job after a number of other candidates fell by the wayside.
This included Julian Nagelsmann, who many perceived to be the top selection for the job after he was sacked by Bayern Munich.
However, it has been reported that he began to get spooked at other candidates emerging for the role, as he believed that it should already be his.
Talks have been reportedly going well with the former Tottenham boss, as Todd Boehly has apparently been encouraged by the fan reaction to the rumours that he is about to take over.
Shearer praises Pochettino appointment
Shearer has given his personal approval to the decision, saying his presence could be what’s needed to spark a turnaround at the club.
He said: “I can understand that. He needs to get in quickly and have a look and see what he wants to do and who he wants get rid of and to bring in. As soon as possible.”
Last night showed exactly why a new manager is so desperately desired, as the Blues lost 2-0 at home to fellow West Londoners Brentford.
The result was Frank Lampard’s fifth consecutive defeat in charge since he came in on a temporary basis, only further showing that he is not the man to take them into the future.
Despite Pochettino’s notable lack of trophies in his career, particularly in England, he certainly looks the best candidate to take the club’s project into next season.
