'He won't come': Emmanuel Petit says 50-year-old definitely won't be Chelsea's next manager
Emmanuel Petit is totally convinced that Zinedine Zidane won’t become Chelsea’s next manager.
The Blues are now in the market for their third manager of the season following Graham Potter’s dismissal last week.
Bruno Saltor, who’s stepped in as Chelsea’s interim boss, watched his side draw 0-0 at home to Liverpool last night.
However, a lot of the fanbase would love to see Potter’s successor named in time for next week’s Champions League quarter-final showdown with Real Madrid.
Zinedine Zidane, 50, hasn’t cropped up in the rumour mill in the couple of days since Potter’s sacking.
However, Sport claimed last month that Zidane is a possible candidate to become the next Chelsea manager.
Petit, who was a former teammate of Zidane during their playing careers, insists Zidane wouldn’t take the job because of the language barrier. He claims man-management is absolutely crucial to him.
“Zidane, he won’t come. Definitely. Do you know why? Because he doesn’t speak English. That’s the truth because I have known Zidane for ages and the way he manages players, he’s very close, he always talks to his players. So he wants the communication being a priority. Very important for him, he doesn’t want someone to translate everything he has to say publicly,” Petit told Stadium Astro.
Zidane, who’s one of the all-time great players, has a glittering managerial career to go with that.
The Frenchman won the Champions League three times as Real Madrid’s manager, which came in three consecutive years. He won two La Liga titles, too.
He’s been out of work since leaving the Bernabeu in 2021.
Frank Leboeuf recently said he couldn’t picture Zidane ending up at Chelsea without Champions League football next season. The Blues won’t be in Europe’s elite club competition next season unless they win it this year.
