‘He’ll come up short’: Simon Jordan explains why Chelsea will not win anything with Mauricio Pochettino

Simon Jordan has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino will struggle to overcome some of the elite managers in the Premier League if he becomes Chelsea manager.

He told TalkSPORT that he believes the Argentine will struggle to get the better of the likes of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp if he makes the return to England.

Pochettino seems to have a clear path to the job at Stamford Bridge after a number of other candidates have fallen by the wayside.

Notably this has included Julian Nagelsmann, who seemed to become spooked that he hadn’t yet been given the role during the lengthy recruitment process.

Despite a number of other candidates being mentioned, it seems it is now the Argentine’s job to lose.

Jordan tips Pochettino for little success

Talk has begun over how the Blues would get on with Pochettino as their coach. Jordan has claimed that he has doubts over his abilities to become the best in the league.

He said: “I don’t think anyone would doubt the fact that he’s passionate, or doubt that he could bring people with Pochettino. My question about Pochettino is if he has this tiny little factor which only the top guys have and it’s something that you can’t bottle or distil which is this ’win gene’ and I don’t think he has it.

“He’s also going to have to overcome elite managers in the Premier League. It’s not just galvanising a squad because we all know that Pochettino will go and do precisely what he should do which is make Chelsea contenders.

“If they’re satisfied with being contenders, that’s fine. If they want to win, he’s going to have to overcome Guardiola, Klopp, and whoever else we think is an elite manager in this league and that is where I believe he will come up short.”

His time at Spurs did see him leave without a trophy, which perhaps explains why there are some doubts over whether he can reach those heights on the West side of London.
