'I was surprised': Thomas Frank admits he was shocked by what Frank Lampard did as Chelsea boss tonight
Brentford manager Thomas Frank admitted he did not expect Frank Lampard’s team decisions as Chelsea suffered another defeat at Stamford Bridge.
Lampard decided to keep largely the same eleven that he used in the second-leg defeat to Real Madrid last week, with the only changes were made due to injury problems.
Kai Havertz, Marc Cucurella, and Reece James all missed this game because of injuries.
There is one obvious problem with this line-up, however, which is the lack of natural attackers.
Raheem Sterling, who came in for Havertz in the starting line-up, is the only forward in this team.
Brentford boss Frank admitted that even he did not expect it.

“Of course you’re pleased they showed us so much respect, but I was surprised,” Frank told the media after the game when asked about the lack of attacking threat in Chelsea’s line-up, as per The Athletic’s Liam Twomey.
After being a goal down in the first half following Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal, Lampard tried to change the system to a 4-3-3, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mykhailo Mudryk joining Sterling up front, but to no avail.
Instead, Brentford doubled their lead and extend Chelsea’s losing run in all competitions to five runs.
The Blues simply cannot score, and the possibility of having to worry about a relegation battle is increasingly likely.
The most frustrating thing is that Lampard clearly set up his team to win, rather than trying to develop those who will likely be part of the team’s plans next season, and still failed.
Tottenham Hotspur recently made the bold decision to sack their interim manager, Cristian Stellini, for another caretaker and at this point, Chelsea may want to consider taking a similar action after five straight defeats.
