'I won't say what I really think': Lampard angry after what happened with £43.5m Madrid player last night

Chelsea interim manager Frank Lampard believes Eder Militao should have been sent off for Real Madrid.

He told Football London that the decision had the potential to change the tie if his side were facing 10 men for the final half an hour.

Lampard’s team selection in a must-win game surprised many before the game got underway, with Kai Havertz the only recognised attacker on the pitch.

However, big chances fell to the likes of N’golo Kante and Marc Cucurella in the first half, although typically the Blues were unable to make the most of those opportunities.

This again came back to bite them, and in the end they were humbled 4-0 on aggregate after a 2-0 defeat at Stamford Bridge.

The tie had potential to completely turn on its head in the second half, when Militao made a foul on Trevoh Chalobah who looked in behind the Madrid defence.

The £43.5m man had already been booked after a first half foul, and could have been given his marching orders if the referee had looked differently on the incident.

It notably left coach Ashley Cole furious, with him needing to be cooled down by the backroom staff when the Brazil international remained on the pitch.

Lampard has also now claimed that the decision was one that he completely disagreed with.

He said: “Militao for me was a second yellow card. I won’t say what I really think. That one in the attacking final third, is a second yellow card, which means a red, which means 30 minutes a man up.”

Whether facing 10 men would have helped the Blues turn things around will forever be unknown, however their performance over the past two seasons will leave little doubt over who the better side was out of the two.
