Journalist shares what Chelsea’s Mason Mount did after Aston Villa defeat

Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount was spotted walking the pitch and applauding the fans on his own despite his lack of involvement in Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa.

Mount, who may have been still nursing an injury, was among Chelsea’s unused substitutes in the disappointing loss to Unai Emery’s man.

It was quite a surprise that Graham Potter did not put the versatile midfielder on the pitch considering Chelsea desperately needed more firepower in the final third.

It was not until the full-time that Mount entered the pitch to show his appreciation for the Stamford Bridge crowd and their support.

“Mount is going round the pitch applauding the Chelsea fans even though he didn’t get on the pitch,” The Athletic’s Simon Johnson wrote on Twitter.

“Fans clearly appreciated the gesture.”

Mount, whose future at the club remains uncertain amid the reported contract talks with Chelsea, has not featured for the Blues since February due to a pubic bone injury.

He also had to miss out on England’s latest squad as he needed more time to recover during the international break.

It is unclear whether he will return to a regular starter role once he fully recovers with Joao Felix now being one of the first names on the team sheet.
