Report: Chelsea have preferred 'excellent' manager over Nagelsmann from the very start, he's on the final shortlist
Chelsea have always preferred Mauricio Pochettino over Julian Nagelsmann in their managerial hunt, according to reports.
Julian Nagelsmann, 35, has been strongly linked with the vacant position at Stamford Bridge this month.
However, Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter yesterday that Nagelsmann has now withdrawn from the race to become Chelsea’s next permanent manager.
As for Mauricio Pochettino, the speculation around him has ramped up in recent days.
The Independent reports that Pochettino has really impressed Chelsea after more conversations with them.

According to The Athletic, Chelsea never considered Nagelsmann to be their number one candidate.
In fact, the report says that the Blues have always ranked Pochettino over him since the start of the managerial search.
In addition, it is understood that this is now the third time Pochettino has come under consideration for the job at Chelsea.

Chelsea fans may be relieved to hear Pochettino has always been in the club’s sights, certainly over Nagelsmann at least.
There is a lot of speculation now around the former Tottenham boss steeping into the manager’s dugout at Stamford Bridge next season.
Sky Sports claims that Pochettino is now the outstanding candidate for Chelsea, who are also considering Vincent Kompany and an unnamed coach on a three-man shortlist.
The Argentine was integral in overseeing major change during five years at Spurs, who did pretty much everything but win a trophy.
If it becomes a straight shootout between Pochettino and Kompany, we’re choosing the former all day long given his experience and know-how.
Let’s hope the Chelsea players are excited about the rumours!
