Report: Todd Boehly is now convinced by 51-year-old manager after positive fan reaction
Reports have claimed that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly has been convinced by Mauricio Pochettino following positive fan reaction to his links.
According to the Evening Standard, there were original reservations over the 51-year-old’s fondness with arch-rivals Tottenham, after spending numerous successful years with the club.
Pochettino has now emerged as the favourite for the role as manager after a number of twists and turns in recent weeks.
It had originally been believed that the job was likely to go to either Julian Nagelsmann or Luis Enrique, although the latter failed to impress in recent meetings with the club.
The role had looked perfect for the German given the fact that it isn’t looking likely that it is going to be available until the end of the season.
Boehly convinced by Pochettino
This lined up with when he wanted to return to management after being sacked earlier this season by Bayern Munich.
However, it seems the lengthy recruitment process concerned the young manager, and therefore he ruled himself out of the running.
This opened the path up for Pochettino to come back for this third stint in the Premier League, after previous spells with Southampton and Spurs.
There will have been hesitancy among some that his links and positive experience with the North London side will have had an effect on either his or supporters’ views on him becoming Chelsea manager.
However, recent reports have claimed that the hiring is close to being confirmed, leaving him enough time to do what he needs with the current first team squad before any of them are sold this summer.
The reported mood amongst the camp is high regarding the appointment, with many believing he could be the right man to lead them into the future.
