Report: Todd Boehly really wanted to bring key Real Madrid man to Chelsea when he first arrived

Reports have claimed that Todd Boehly really wanted to bring in Real Madrid head of recruitment Juni Calafat when he took over Chelsea.

According to The Independent, the Brazilian was of serious interest to the Blues after leading the European Champions into the new direction they are currently thriving in.

It took the American a number of months to hire all of the staff he desired following his high-profile takeover of the club last year.

This saw him left in charge of the majority of off-field duties at Stamford Bridge last summer, which included the transfers.

These dealings have come in for criticism when it has emerged that many of them are struggling for form at Stamford Bridge.

The likes of Raheem Sterling, Kalidou Koulibaly and Marc Cucurella have all failed to live up to the hype surrounding them when they made their moves before the season started.

Meanwhile, the addition of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seems downright strange when it is likely there were already plans in place to replace Thomas Tuchel.

This saga may have been avoided if Boehly had been able to instantly hire who he wanted when he took over the club.

Calafat has been cited as a crucial figure at the Bernabeu right now, with him responsible for sending Madrid in the right direction to build in the future.

This was recently shown when the La Liga side beat out competition from Chelsea for the signing of Endrick, despite the Brazilian visiting the Blues before making his decision.

With it looking likes Boehly’s appointments are done for the time being, there will be hopes that they can help Chelsea move into the new era a lot more seamlessly than the two previous transfer windows have signalled that they may be.
