Report: Two clubs could make late moves for 51-year-old manager Chelsea want
Chelsea could face late competition from Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid for Mauricio Pochettino’s signature, according to reports.
The Telegraph claims that the Blues have cut down their manager shortlist to three; Pochettino, Burnley’s Vincent Kompany, and one unnamed candidate.
Unsurprisingly, Pochettino is said to be the favourite to become the next permanent Chelsea manager.
The hunt for a new manager, led by co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley, is getting closer to a conclusion after a series of reported positive talks between Chelsea and Pochettino.
For now, The Telegraph adds that it is expected that there is nothing stopping Pochettino from accepting an offer from Chelsea, should it arrive.
However, there is still a possibility of late moves from Tottenham and Real Madrid, which would then force Pochettino to make a decision.

The Chelsea job is arguably more attractive than Tottenham despite its obvious challenges, including the oversized squad, but it may not be the case if compared to Real Madrid.
While there is still uncertainty over Carlo Ancelotti’s future at Santiago Bernabeu, so Real Madrid may not be after a new manager this summer, but their situation is far more stable than Chelsea’s at the moment.
This Chelsea squad is full of new players who have only played together in the last few months and still lack Premier League experience.
These players would likely be the majority if Chelsea were to trim their squad at the end of the season.
The Telegraph also mentions that Pochettino backs Chelsea’s plan to cut their 31-man squad in time for the pre-season.
This is why Pochettino’s track record in developing young players could prove crucial.
There is nothing wrong with Chelsea’s taking their time to thoroughly assess their options before making a decision, but if they would not want to wait until the competition, especially from Real Madrid, becomes a problem.
