‘Wouldn’t be surprised’: Jamie Carragher says Chelsea could be about to announce league-winner as new manager
Jamie Carragher believes Chelsea are going to announce Julian Nagelsmann as their new manager in the next couple of weeks.
He told The Overlap that he can see the German waiting to get himself ready for the role, and prepared for a crucial pre-season.
Nagelsmann is currently one of the leading candidates for the role alongside Luis Enrique. The duo have been in decent talks with the club.
However, it seems like there is an ambition to wait until the end of the season before making a permanent appointment to take them forward.
That is why Frank Lampard has taken the role of temporary boss, although things have not got off to the best start with back-to-back losses.
Carragher believes that the Blues are preparing to hire the Bundesliga champion ahead of the upcoming domestic season.
Carragher predicts Nagelsmann to Chelsea
He said: “If we’re being totally honest if a manager has an option between Chelsea and Spurs, I think he’s going to choose Chelsea in terms of giving him more chance of winning – maybe there is a bigger transfer kitty.
“The fact that he has put Frank Lampard in, they may have somebody already lined up but that person only wants to come in the summer, so that’s why there are putting a proper manager in in some ways rather than someone like Bruno who is number two.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if it came out in the next couple of weeks that Nagelsmann has agreed to join Chelsea but he wants some time out and he wants to get himself ready for the summer and have a pre-season.
“I might be totally wrong and they can’t get anyone and they are still working on that. But to do Frank straight away makes me feel like they maybe already have something lined up for the summer.”
After the failure that has become of this season in terms of the managerial role, the next appointment is crucial in order to carry out the project into the coming campaigns.
