Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Mauricio Pochettino will not be given the final say on if Chelsea sign Andre Onana this summer.
He told GiveMeSport that the decision will instead be made as a collective at the club, whoever the new manager coming in ends up to be.
It is widely expected that Pochettino will be named the new Chelsea permanent manager in the coming days, with him emerging as the only real candidate for the role.
Reports have already started to surface over the past few weeks over players and positions that the prospective new boss would like to address if handed the keys at Stamford Bridge.
The majority of these come down the spine of the team, with a striker and centre midfielder near the top of the list for what he believes the side requires.
Pochettino not getting final say on Onana
Alongside them, a goalkeeper is also high in demand for the Argentine.
The Blues have been strongly linked with a move for around £40m for Onana, although recent claims have suggested that Pochettino is not so keen on this.
However, Jones has claimed that his opinion may not be taken as the final say on the potential signing.
He said: “There’s definitely potential for this one. We’ve known that he has been on Chelsea’s radar for a while and obviously they have recruitment and scouting that goes on beyond whoever the manager is at that time.
“So it doesn’t matter too much on the goalkeeping front what Pochettino makes of it. He’ll obviously have a say, but the decision will always be made as a group over a decision like this and Onana is somebody that they’re certainly exploring.”
A new option is certainly required if they are to compete at the top again, with it unlikely that they will be able to with Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga.
