'Really startling': Sky presenter shares what he noticed about Chelsea while watching their warm-up yesterday
Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones couldn’t help but notice the quality of the Chelsea squad when he was watching them warm up last night.
He claimed in the pre-match coverage that it was staggering how much they were struggling based on the quality of the players they have at their disposal.
Last night saw the Blues humbled again by Arsenal, with the league leaders defeating them 3-1 at the Emirates.
Only an improved second half display saw the visitors avoid embarrassment in North London, with Noni Madueke getting his first goal for the club.
The January signing was extremely impressive in a rare start for the Blues, with his quality normally being restricted to just a few minutes at the end of a game recently.
The England U21 international is just an example of the immense array of talent available at the club right now, especially after a prolific January transfer window.
Chelsea squad full of quality
They smashed their transfer record by signing Enzo Fernandez, whilst also bringing in Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix and Benoit Badiashile.
Jones couldn’t help but notice the abilities of the players the Blues have, despite languishing in the bottom half of the table with only a few matches to go.
He said: “It’s really startling actually. To stand as close to the Chelsea team as we are and to see the quality and experience and see them struggling as they are.”
Frank Lampard’s team selection will be extremely interesting for the next few games, with all importance seemingly being gone from the results.
Madueke has almost certainly earned more gametime, while Mudryk’s impressive cameo will surely put him in the interim manager’s thinking for future games as they look to rescue any sort of success from this season.
