Report: Arsenal want 25-year-old Chelsea sold two years ago
Arsenal are reportedly among several Premier League clubs interested in former Chelsea centre-back Fikayo Tomori, who could leave AC Milan this summer.
According to 90min, last Saturday’s Serie A clash between Roma and Milan caught a lot of attention of top European clubs.
Chelsea, Manchester United Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich all were said to send scouts to watch the game.
Chelsea representatives got to see the battle between two Cobham graduates; Tomori and Tammy Abraham, they were mainly there to watch Milan’s Sandro Tonali and Rafael Leao, the report adds.
Arsenal, Manchester United, and Newcastle scouts, however, were all paying close attention to Tomori.
The 25-year-old only featured for 45 minutes before being replaced at half-time due to an injury, but he still managed to showcase his aerial prowess. He won all five of his aerial duels in the first half.
Unfortunately for Chelsea, Tomori’s impressive progress since leaving the club to join Milan in 2021 could prove troublesome next season.
90min claims that the Canada-born defender is interested in a Premier League return to boost his chances of becoming a regular for the England national team.
Chelsea’s three aforementioned Premier League rivals, alongside Liverpool, are all expected to enter the race for Tomori.
The Blues, on the other hand, already have plenty of centre-back options at their disposal.
It is worth mentioning that Mauricio Pochettino, who is the leading candidate to become Chelsea’s next manager, reportedly plans to make room in the squad for young defender Levi Colwill as well.
Therefore, as disappointing as it would be to see Tomori join a Premier League rival, it is very unlikely that Chelsea would make a move for him this summer.
