Report: Mauricio Pochettino already wants to build his Chelsea side around 29-year-old

Reports from Italy have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino already knows who he wants to build his Chelsea side around.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, the Argentine has a plan to base his attack around Romelu Lukaku when he returns from his loan spell in the summer.

The Belgian has begun to find his feet again in the Serie A after what had been a largely ineffective loan spell to start.

He recently scored a huge goal in the quarter-finals of the Champions League to help his side set up a semi-final showdown with their city rivals AC Milan.

It had been a campaign full of injuries and heartbreak for the Belgium international, capped off by a dire World Cup showing.

Pochettino wants Lukaku

He notably missed a hatful of brilliant chances to help Belgium advance from their group stage against Croatia in their final game.

Talk has already begun about where he will be playing his football next year, as his contract will still be owned by Chelsea.

Many will have not even considered the possibility that Lukaku may have ever pulled on a Blues shirt again.

However, reports have now claimed that it is certainly in Pochettino’s plans to try and sell the project to the striker.

The 29-year-old is reportedly wanting to continue playing his football with the Serie A side, who he was hoping to go back to pretty much as soon as he went to West London.

Unfortunately for him, Inter’s finances suggest that they will struggle to mount a permanent fee for him, and this could open the door for one of the most sensational comebacks in recent history.
