‘Well informed contacts’: Chelsea now very keen on completing £90m transfer this summer - journalist

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Chelsea are very keen on completing the signing of Joao Felix this summer.

He told GiveMeSport that they are looking to plot a move that is not a straight cash one worth around £90m.

It has been an up and down loan spell at the club for Felix since he moved to West London back in January.

He has frequently been the most exciting player on the pitch whenever he has started for the Blues. However, his output has been questioned.

He has scored just three goals, most recently capping off the win against Bournemouth at the weekend.

Starts have been much more difficult to come by since Frank Lampard took over the club until the end of the season.

Chelsea very keen on Felix

Despite this, Jones has claimed that his best sources have told him that Chelsea are still very keen on completing a deal.

He said: “Yet that view I have is completely at odds with messages that well informed contacts at Chelsea pass onto me about what is going on internally. It sounds like they really would like to keep him.

“I think they will look to get creative, a straight cash deal at almost £90million is unlikely but there is also a realisation that he could end up elsewhere in the Premier League if they don’t find a way to sign him.

“I’m told he enjoys London and has settled pretty well here. There has been some talk of a second loan mooted, and Arsenal and Man United were both offered him before he joined Chelsea, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise to see such a deal explored again if necessary at the end of the season.”

Supporters will be hoping that a deal for Felix does not block negotiations for a new contract for Mason Mount.
