Chelsea youngster who has never played for them already being considered to start first PL game journalist

Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed there is a chance that Levi Colwill starts the first game of the season for Chelsea in the Premier League.

He told Simon Phillips’ Substack that the current injury problems and potential transfers will leave Chelsea relying on the 20-year-old when the season rolls around.

Supporters and members of the Chelsea hierarchy alike will be hoping that the summer window ends with Colwill still a member of the Blues squad.

He is attracting plenty of attention from Brighton over a potential permanent transfer this summer, after he impressed on loan at the Amex last season.

All reports so far have claimed that the Blues are not willing to listen to offers for the Englishman, however their attempts to sign Moises Caicedo could rely on them being a bit more open to letting him go.

Colwill could start vs Liverpool

The Seagulls may point to Benoit Badiashile as a reason why Colwill should feel like he will not be offered too many chances to impress next season.

However, the Frenchman is currently injured and could miss the start of next season as a result.

There is also the likelihood that the Blues will be going into next season without Kalidou Koulibaly in their squad, after they have been offered a large fee to see him take his talents to Saudi Arabia.

With Trevoh Chalobah also refusing to rule out a move away from the club this summer, the club could very quickly see themselves low on numbers at the back, even if they are aiming to play four at the back under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Holding on to Colwill should be seen as one of the priorities at Stamford Bridge this summer, and it will be a massive test of the new owners if they are able to give him guarantees over his gametime.
