Report: Real Madrid are now set to sign 23-year-old Chelsea player for £52m
Reports have claimed that Real Madrid are now set to sign Chelsea forward Kai Havertz.
According to BILD, the Spanish side are closing in on a deal worth around £52m for the 23-year-old.
Reports in recent days have stated that the defending Champions of Europe are considering Havertz as they look to fill the voids becoming very obvious in their frontline.
Yesterday saw Karim Benzema officially announce he was leaving Madrid, leaving the central role vacant going into next season.
Not that he was playing much this season anyway, but Eden Hazard was also announced to be leaving this summer too. While Chelsea fans would love a reunion with the Belgian, it has already been claimed that the Blues are not looking to make it happen.
Madrid ready to sign Havertz
However, Madrid’s interest has turned to Stamford Bridge though, and Havertz has popped up near the top of their list.
It can certainly be said that Chelsea have not been optimising the German to his maximum. There have hardly been any occasions that the Blues have played him in arguably his best position.
The lack of a goalscorer has been very obvious over the last couple of years, and this has seen the 23-year-old forced to play in a striker role that he has frequently not looked comfortable in.
The Blues are going to be in the market this summer for a new man up top, however it has been claimed that Mauricio Pochettino has high hopes for the future of the returning Armando Broja after his injury.
There have been links to Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, after his sensational campaign that led to the Serie A championship. Despite their interest, they are safe in the knowledge that they would probably need to smash their own transfer record to bring him in.
