Journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed that Liverpool are not focusing their transfer efforts on signing Chelsea target Khephren Thuram this summer.
He took to Twitter to state that the Reds were instead focusing on a deal for Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia right now.
It has previously been claimed that Chelsea had made a big effort to scout Thuram, as they look to strengthen their ranks in the midfield following a sea of departures.
N’golo Kante has left the club following the expiration of his contract, while fellow Champions League winner Mateo Kovacic has jumped at the chance to play for Manchester City next season.
A lot of the Blues’ efforts have revolved around attempting to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton, however they are well aware how difficult that club are to negotiate with.
Chelsea have clear run at Thuram
However, with the departures also including the likes of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, the club may need to go for more than one player in that position this summer.
It has previously been claimed that a bid for the Nice man in the region of £34m may be enough for them to part ways with their young star.
Jacobs has now claimed that Chelsea could have a clear run at signing Thuram, with Liverpool happy in that role after the addition of Dominik Szoboszlai.
He said: “Understand Liverpool now don’t plan to sign Khephren Thuram following Dominik Szoboszlai’s arrival. Talks NOT taking place with Nice this week. Liverpool have explored the deal and price not an obstacle. Thuram available for far less than €60m. Romeo Lavia is the one to watch.”
Chelsea have previously been interested in signing the player’s brother, Marcus Thuram, in an attempt to solve their woes in front of goal.
Despite their efforts back in January, the France international has now signed a deal with Inter Milan after leaving the Bundesliga as a free agent this summer.
