Mauricio Pochettino can be seen in deep conversation with Ben Chilwell during his first training session as Chelsea manager.
A video posted on the club’s official Twitter page shows the pair clearly talking about something, with a hand on the player’s back from the manager.
Yesterday saw Pochettino take charge of the first session of pre-season, which saw a number of key first team players return to the club following their summer break.
Raheem Sterling and Thiago Silva, two players who are key candidates to become the new captain of the club, were present, alongside a host of youngsters.
The likes of Andrey Santos, Cesare Casadei and Ian Maatsen could be seen with the first team, with them all looking to impress to the point where they are under consideration for the new season.
One player who could have an important role to play is Chilwell, who is facing competition from the Dutchman and Lewis Hall, as well as big money signing Marc Cucurella.
Pochettino in deep conversation with Chilwell
It has previously been claimed that the new manager sees the England international as a player who can be crucial for him going into this season.
While it won’t be known what the pair were discussing, it will be interesting to see if it revolves around the 26-year-old starting the first game of the season against Liverpool.
Injuries plagued Chilwell’s development last season, and he was a huge miss whenever he wasn’t fit alongside Reece James.
His attacking capabilities make Chelsea a unique team going forwards, with a lot of their creativity coming from their wing-backs.
With it likely Pochettino plays a back four next season, it will be interesting to see how he adapts to slightly more defensive capabilities being required.
