Reports have claimed that senior players at Chelsea all have the same opinion on Mauricio Pochettino’s pre-season training so far.
According to The Athletic, a number have told them anonymously that it has already been the most difficult start to a campaign in a long time.
It has been widely known in the game that Pochettino is a coach who is keen on having a fit side, and this is something he certainly hasn’t inherited at Chelsea yet.
The injury record of the club last season suggested that they were nowhere near where they needed to be, and had a massive effect on them in the process.
The likes of Reece James and Wesley Fofana saw their seasons vastly interrupted by problems, and these have already carried into the start of this season.
Senior players say Chelsea pre-season tough
With only one game a week coming up off the back of not qualifying for Europe, they will be hoping the demands of football do not hit them as hard this season.
Nevertheless, there is no harm in boosting their fitness ahead of the new campaign, and this feels as if it is Pochettino’s mantra on his return to the Premier League.
The Blues have now travelled to the United States for their pre-season tour, where they will take on a number of Premier League sides as well as Wrexham and Borussia Dortmund.
There will have been plenty of hopes for Moises Caicedo to join up with the squad ahead of the tour, however that signing has not been completed and still looks some distance away.
They have been able to take a number of other signings with them, with Christopher Nkunku and Nicolas Jackson travelling with the squad that are looking to make an impression ahead of Liverpool.
