‘The one’: Chelsea have put a lot of work into signing £43m player already – journalist

Journalist Dean Jones has claimed that Chelsea have already done a lot of the groundwork required into signing Reyen Cherki this summer.

He told GiveMeSport that the deal to bring in the Lyon man may actually end up taking place in 2024.

The U21 Euros were a great platform for Cherki to show off on a continental stage just how promising his career is.

This tournament, which coincidentally came to an end at the hands of Mykhailo Mudryk and Ukraine, was only a showing of what he had been putting out there in his performances for his club.

With many still not convinced by the attackers available for Mauricio Pochettino going into next season, there will be plenty who are hoping that another exciting name or two come through the door, and Cherki certainly fits this bill.

Jones has now claimed that the club have already put in quite a lot of work regarding the signing of the Frenchman, although it may work out that he is actually coming through the door next summer.

He said: “If we are to look at Chelsea’s transfer activity in terms of a creator then Reyen Cherki from Lyon is probably the one.

“Quite a bit of work has gone into it and really it’s just a case of whether they go for him now or in 2024.”

The Blues may look to bring in another attacker off the back of a number of their options for last season either leaving or likely to be on the move.

Christian Pulisic was the latest player to leave, although it was hoped that he may be able to move to Ligue 1 to help a transfer for Cherki go ahead.
