'He's progressing brilliantly': Gareth Southgate says he's really impressed by 20-year-old Chelsea youngster
England boss Gareth Southgate has admitted he’s really impressed by the rise of Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill.
Levi Colwill, who’s just 20, looks like he’ll be the next product from the Blues academy to become a key first-team player at Stamford Bridge.
The left-footed defender impressed last season out on loan with Brighton, which has now earned him a route into Chelsea’s senior squad.
It’s obvious that Chelsea really value the Cobham talent. That is why he signed a new six-year contract at the start of August.

We already know Southgate is an admirer of Colwill, which is why the Chelsea talent trained with England’s senior group earlier this summer.
Now, the Three Lions manager has waxed lyrical about the Blues rising star.
“Levi at Brighton had an excellent season… He’s got a different challenge this year. Can he get into Chelsea’s first team?” Southgate told talkSPORT (11:08am, 4 August).
“He’s still a very young player. He’s progressing brilliantly. We don’t want to put all the pressure on him to be the next one [for England].”

Colwill’s getting his opportunity to shine this season under Mauricio Pochettino.
Our guess is the centre-half is in line to start the Premier League opening fixture against Liverpool, so it’s all about him starting well and stamping his authority in the line-up.
Gary Cahill recently said that he’s been really impressed by Colwill after seeing him in training during this summer’s pre-season, as quoted by the club’s official website.
We believe he can nail down a permanent starting position if he plays how he can.
He’s a fantastic ball-playing centre-back with a sublime range of passing and comfort in possession. He towers over attackers with his physical strength, too.
