Report: Mauricio Pochettino will now not let ‘terrific’ Chelsea player leave this summer

Reports have claimed that Mauricio Pochettino is now not going to let Armando Broja leave the club this summer.

According to The Evening Standard, the manager has the striker in his plans going forwards and does not want to see him move to another side.

Broja was in attendance at Stamford Bridge yesterday as the Blues got their Premier League season underway with the visit of Liverpool.

His injury woes saw him sitting behind the bench as a player not part of the matchday squad, as they got their season going with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool.

The game saw Nicolas Jackson make his debut up front for the Blues. While he missed a big chance in the first half, it was still an impressive display from the forward who found himself very isolated at times up top.

Pochettino not selling Broja

What became obvious as the substitutes began to come on for the Blues was that the current squad did not provide a figure who could replace him if needed at this current stage.

There may have been an appetite to use Christopher Nkunku in that position at times this season. However, he will now likely not feature until at least December after his injury.

This could present an opportunity for Broja to stake his claim to the new manager when he returns to full fitness.

He did not take part in the pre-season tour of the United States, where the Blues went unbeaten against some top class oppositions such as Newcastle United and Borussia Dortmund.

In the glimpses he showed last season before his injury, the Albanian showed he could certainly a play a role up front. It looks as if he is about to get another opportunity in the new-look side.
