Luis Garcia now thinks 'brilliant' player is actually Chelsea’s leader, not Reece James

Pundit Luis Garcia has claimed that he sees a different player to Reece James as Chelsea’s leader.

He told ESPN he believes Enzo Fernandez is actually going to take that role for the club this season,

Fernandez put in a sensational display to crown the new season at Stamford Bridge yesterday as the Blues drew 1-1 with Liverpool.

He picked up the Player of the Match award for his performance, where he played in a more advanced role to what supporters were used to seeing after he joined last January.

Conor Gallagher, who partnered the World Cup winner in midfield, was full of praise for his teammate. He described him as ‘brilliant’ after the game.

Garcia was equally impressed with his display, and mentioned his leadership skills when praising his skills.

He said: “In the middle of the park, Enzo had a fantastic game. It looks like he’s going to be the leader of the Blue side.”

Yesterday was no doubt an emotional moment for James, as he captained Chelsea for the first time at just 23 years of age.

He put in a sublime performance too, as he continued to put in dangerous crosses for his entire performance.

There were a number of hearts in mouths when he was replaced with a few minutes to go, with him seeming to signal that he was struggling with his knee.

Knee injuries have plagued the defender over the last couple of seasons, and there will have been plenty of worries that his demons were reoccurring.

However Mauricio Pochettino claimed after the match that he made the decision based on fatigue rather than any form of injury.
