Reports have claimed that Romeo Lavia has begun to make it clear which team he would rather join this summer out of Chelsea and Liverpool.
According to The Guardian, the midfielder has indicated that he would actually prefer a move to Stamford Bridge if the opportunity comes around.
Lavia has been involved in one of the biggest transfer sagas in recent memory, with the two Premier League clubs both looking to strengthen their midfield.
Everything has seemed to revolve around striking a deal for Moises Caicedo, who has been pushing to leave Brighton all summer.
Liverpool made the first big move when they had their first bid accepted by the Seagulls for what would be a British transfer record.
However, the player made it clear he only wanted to join Chelsea, and he refused to travel to Merseyside for his medical.
Lavia prefers Chelsea
Instead, he waited for the Blues to agree a deal with their fellow Premier League side, and he is expected to be announced today.
Now, attention turns to what will happen with Lavia who is still widely expected to leave Southampton this summer.
It has now been claimed that Liverpool have agreed a fee with the Championship side, with them now paying more than what they were originally asking for.
However, at this stage it has been claimed that the player would still prefer a move to Stamford Bridge.
It remains to be seen if he would become an instant starter in West London, with Enzo Fernandez certainly going to be starting.
His performance yesterday showed that he is going to play a key role this season, and a midfield partner close to his level will be a real boost.
