‘Something not quite right’: Darren Bent can’t believe Chelsea haven’t tried to sign PL star this summer

Pundit Darren Bent has claimed that he cannot believe Chelsea haven’t made a proper attempt to sign Brentford’s David Raya this summer.

He told talkSPORT (4:13pm, August 1, 2023)  that he believes the goalkeeper would bring more quality than their current number one Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Reports at the start of the window did link Raya with a move across West London, when it became apparent that he was not looking to sign a new contract with the Bees.

His deal runs out next summer, and many clubs may have been under the impression that a cheap deal could be on the horizon so they don’t lose one of their better players for free.

This hasn’t appeared to be the case though. Arsenal are the furthest along the line to bringing him in, but have an issue with the price that is being requested is seeming to be a bit of a stumbling block.

Bent shocked at no Raya deal

Bent has claimed that he believes that the signing would be a massive bonus for the Blues, when looking at their current goalkeeping option.

He said: “He is better than Kepa. So why would Chelsea not then go?

“Why would David Raya not go, ‘Hold on, why am I going behind Ramsdale? Why don’t I go to Chelsea and be their number one?’

“There’s something not quite right with the David Raya deal because that’s the one I would go, if I were Chelsea, give me him.”

It has been claimed recently that the Blues are looking to sign a Spanish Premier League goalkeeper, although this is Robert Sanchez from Brighton.

The 25-year-old is out of favour right now, and could even be used as part of a blockbuster Moises Caicedo deal.
