‘As it stands’: Chelsea player is now set to stay despite the club accepting an offer today - journalist
Journalist Matt Law has claimed that the expectation is that Ian Maatsen will stay at Chelsea this summer.
He took to Twitter to stay this is currently where the situation sits despite the Blues agreeing a fee with Burnley to sell him today.
It has been claimed that Chelsea are willing to let Maatsen leave today as they look to secure any late funds to kitty.
Burnley, who had him on loan last season, have reportedly agreed a loan with an obligation to buy him next summer.
Maatsen expected to stay
This is a deal that is similar to the one Newcastle United have struck to bring in Lewis Hall from West London.
However, it emerged that the player was not keen to make the move, with him currently being a part of Mauricio Pochettino’s plans.
Now though, Law has claimed that it is currently expected that the Dutchman will remain at Stamford Bridge this summer.
He said: “Further update – As it stands (and still time for changes) – the expectation is Ian Maatsen will choose to stay at Chelsea, despite the deal agreed with Burnley.”
It remains to be seen whether Vincent Kompany’s side will be able to convince the player to make the move to Turf Moor.
