'Something happened': Mauricio Pochettino admits 22-year-old Chelsea player didn't have the best pre-season
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino does not feel that Mykhailo Mudryk had the best pre-season.
Mauricio Pochettino says it was a bit stop-start for Mykhailo Mudryk but hopes he can find his best form in the next few weeks.
Speaking to Chelsea’s official website and the media ahead of the Blues’ next match against Nottingham Forest, the Argentine said: “He’s a very talented player, but before talking about football, he needs to feel comfortable, feel really strong in his body. He suffered from before the beginning of pre-season.
“He only played one game at the [Under-21] Euros because he was injured. Here he was never consistently training, something happened. Now we are focused on trying to help him, and for him to feel strong and healthy.”

Pochettino also added: “Nobody can perform if he doesn’t feel strong and confident in your body. We need to build his confidence. We are working on areas for him to feel good. We hope in the next few weeks he starts to find his best form.”
Mudryk is still looking for his first Chelsea goal, having failed to score since his big-money arrival from Shakhtar Donetsk back in January.
Mykhailo Mudryk needs to impress next time out
When Mudryk’s next opportunity comes, the 22-year-old has to take it. Competition for places in Chelsea’s attack is becoming serious now, if it was not already.
The Blues have now confirmed the signing of Cole Palmer from Manchester City. The England U21 international could easily slot in on the right, while Raheem Sterling could be moved to the opposite flank.

With the form that the 28-year-old is in right now, however, Pochettino should probably not change too much.
There is also Noni Madueke, who will be hoping to break into Chelsea’s starting XI himself, while Christopher Nkunku will be expected to take up one of the attacking spots when he is back from injury.
It means Mudryk is going to have to start delivering soon if he does not want to be on Chelsea’s bench for the whole season.
