'His career could've been so much more': Pundit now disappointed with Chelsea player after loan exit

Alejandro Moreno thinks Chelsea loanee Romelu Lukaku could have achieved so much more in his career.

Romelu Lukaku joined AS Roma from the Blues on loan at the end of August, and Moreno does not think it was the best move the striker could have got.

Discussing the biggest winners and losers in the last transfer window on ESPN FC, the former forward said: “It just feels like his career could’ve been so much more and we just find now reasons to talk about him because of failures, not because of achievements.

“And whether he is the biggest loser in the transfer window or not, I don’t know, but what we do know is that he hasn’t landed in the best spot and again, this doesn’t make us think of him as trending in the right direction.”

Lukaku spent last season out on loan at Inter Milan, but a permanent move there during the summer failed to materialise.

The 30-year-old was also heavily linked to their Serie A rivals Juventus, with Sky Sports claiming that they held talks with Chelsea about a deal. It was Roma, though, who provided him with an escape route out of Stamford Bridge.

Romelu Lukaku’s Chelsea career has been disappointing

All things considered, Lukaku’s career as a whole has not been terrible. The Belgian has played for three huge clubs in Chelsea, Manchester United and Inter, helping the last of that trio to win the Serie A title back in the 2020/21 season.

His overall goal record is also quite impressive. Where Lukaku has obviously disappointed is at Chelsea, with both his spells in west London not going to plan.

Now 30 years of age, could the Belgium international have accomplished more in his career by this stage? Perhaps, and maybe not moving around so much could have helped him.

He still has time left in the game to change things, though. However, for multiple reasons, it does not look like he will be winning anything as a Chelsea player.
