Report: Chelsea are not in talks with their £50m player about a new contract, Todd Boehly won't be happy
Chelsea are not actively in talks with Conor Gallagher about a new contract, which is likely to frustrate Todd Boehly and the rest of the ownership group.
That is according to a report from The Athletic.
They claim that there’s no live talks right now between Chelsea and Conor Gallagher about a possible contract extension at Stamford Bridge.
It is understood that Blues co-owner Todd Boehly, along with Clearlake Capital, do not want any players in the squad entering the final two years of their deals.
However, Gallagher finds himself in a spot where he’s out of contract in the summer of 2025 and there’s no discussions yet about resolving that.
The report explains that Chelsea were only open to selling Gallagher in the summer if an interested buyers got near to their £50million valuation.
Apparently, Tottenham and West Ham showed interest in the England international. But neither got near to the asking price and he stayed at Chelsea this season.
It’s going to be very interesting to see what happens with the England international’s future in the months ahead.
Gallagher may not be one of the Chelsea players in the squad tied down to a long-term deal, but he’s emerging as an important player in the opening weeks of this season.
The box-to-box central midfielder has started every game since Mauricio Pochettino’s arrival as the club’s head coach.
If Pochettino wants to keep him as a key part of the squad, our guess is the club will need to dig further into their pockets to sort out a new deal.
