Report: ‘Perfect’ Chelsea player has now suffered an injury setback, he won’t be back for weeks

Reports have claimed that Reece James has now suffered a setback in his recovery from injury.

According to the Evening Standard, the club captain will now not be back in action until after the upcoming international break.

James has been forced to watch from the sidelines for the majority of this season after suffering an injury in the first few days of the campaign.

He started and impressed in the opening fixture against Liverpool, however was unable to train in the following days as his injury problems have continued to plague him.

The 23-year-old was named the captain before this season got underway, with him clearly having an impact on new manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The Argentine has already described him as the ‘perfect player’, and will no doubt be missing him in the opening weeks of the season that have underwhelmed many.

James suffers injury setback

Malo Gusto has played every game since James’ injury, and had been cutting an impressive figure up until last weekend.

The Frenchman was shown a red card for a strong challenge against Aston Villa, with the Blues going on to lose the game 1-0.

This will have left Pochettino scratching his head as to what to do as far as the right-back position goes. However, he may have stumbled across the perfect answer last night.

He elected to start Marc Cucurella in the position against his former side, with him not notably playing the role at this level up to now.

The Spaniard put in arguably his best performance in recent memory, particularly in the second half, and has made a case for himself to be involved again on Monday night against Fulham.
