'Someone that I've respected': £50m Chelsea player admits he looks up to Liverpool star

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell says Liverpool star Andy Robertson is a player who he has a lot of respect for.

Ben Chilwell recently named the 29-year-old in his top five Premier League full-backs.

Speaking to the Premier League’s official website, the England international said: “Over the last few years, as a left-back, he’s someone that I’ve respected and I’ve seen what he’s done at Liverpool. And he’s won a lot of silverware there, so he’s going to be my fourth choice.”

It comes as no shock to hear that Robertson is someone who Chilwell has a lot of time for.

Both players are, of course, left-backs and the former is a role model for anyone playing in that position.

He has been a huge success for Liverpool since joining the Merseyside club from Hull City back in 2017, helping them to win multiple honours, including the Premier League and Champions League.

Ben Chilwell is also an example

Chilwell, who cost Chelsea £50m when they signed him from Leicester City, is not a bad left-back either.

For whatever reason, the 26-year-old is not playing there right now for the Blues. But when he does, alongside Reece James on the opposite flank, he offers a lot to the team going forward, something that you would expect from a modern-day full-back.

According to WhoScored, Chilwell is completing 2.3 key passes per league game, which is the second-highest average in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad — only Enzo Fernandez is making more (2.8).

Of course, the former Leicester man is playing further forward these days, but the above still shows that he has the skill to create something in attack.

Still, it would be a surprise if Pochettino used Chilwell on the left wing for the rest of the campaign given all of the attacking talent that he has.
