The Mauricio Pochettino statistic which is a good sign for Chelsea today against Aston Villa

Mauricio Pochettino is currently putting the final touches on his Chelsea side’s preparation for the Premier League game against Aston Villa.

The Argentine is looking to get the Blues back to winning ways this season, after only picking up one league win in the opening five fixtures.

Today will not be easy however, as they face a Villa side who recently made their return to European football in the week.

Confidence around the club from supporters is at a bit of a low right now, and last week’s 0-0 draw with Bournemouth did little to assist that.

The inability to find the back of the net has been a severe worry, with big chances being missed on a frequent basis by attackers and midfielders in particular.

However, there may be a boost in belief when looking at the manager’s record against today’s opposition.

Pochettino has recorded a victory in his last four games against Villa, with him seeming to previously have their number both home and away.

Obviously, the midlands side led by Unai Emery are a completely different proposition to any he has faced before, with them recently being backed well in the transfer market.

It will be interesting to see if some of Chelsea’s summer additions step up to the plate today, whether that be from the start or off the bench to make an impact.

They are of course missing a number of those players through injury, and are missing a lot of talent at such an early stage of the season.
