'Good chat with Chelsea': Manager confirms he's held discussion over 19-year-old youngster this week

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has confirmed he spoke with Chelsea this week about Brazilian youngster Andrey Santos.

Andrey Santos, who’s just 19, is a Brazilian talent Chelsea sent to Premier League rival Forest on a season-long loan this year.

The Brazilian teenager is yet to play a single minute in the league since his move to the City Ground, with his only appearance coming in the Carabao Cup.

However, the Forest boss has explained that the South American rising star is still very much in his plans.

The Athletic recently claimed that Chelsea have been in regular contact with Forest to discuss Santos’ loan in the East Midlands. We’ve now had the Reds manager confirm this, too.

Cooper has given a really positive verdict on the Chelsea-owned youngster.

“He’s obviously a really good young player. I had a really good chat with Chelsea this week,” Cooper said, as quoted by Notts TV.

“I didn’t realise some stuff had been written about him… Really enjoying working with him and seeing him in training.”

Santos looked the part during pre-season with Chelsea’s first-team group, so we’re still pretty confident he’ll seize his chance at Forest when it comes his way.

He’s an extremely versatile midfielder who can play in a deeper or box-to-box role.

His main issue right now is there’s a lot of competition for places in a huge Forest squad. He would’ve encountered the same problem if he had stayed at Chelsea this campaign, too.

Let’s give it a couple more months before we decide to completely write off the loan deal.
