‘Helped us massively’: Conor Gallagher is already a huge fan of 21-year-old Chelsea player

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher has now claimed that he is already a massive fan of summer signing Cole Palmer.

He told journalist Nizaar Kinsella that the 21-year-old has been a huge boost to the Blues since he came in to the club and began starting for them.

Palmer was again used from the start for Chelsea in the London derby on Saturday against Arsenal.

He quickly repaid the faith put in him by Mauricio Pochettino by finding the net from the spot early in the first half, despite Raheem Sterling’s best efforts to take the ball off him in the big moment.

The strike was his second in as many games, and this put them in the lead in a game that eventually finished 2-2.

The manager operated Palmer alongside Gallagher in a unique duo of Number 10s, with him opting not to start a recognised striker.

Gallagher praises Palmer

This tactical tweak impressed many though, with Gary Neville in particular full of praise for both of their performances.

It seems the captain on the day was also impressed with what he saw from the former Manchester City man. However, it seems this has been a more regular point of praise.

He said: “As soon as he came into Chelsea, you could see his talent in training and now he’s showing it in games. He’s helped us massively since coming in.”

Pochettino will find it hard from now to drop Palmer, who has really impressed since being given his first start in the EFL Cup.

Three wins and a draw in those four games does enough to suggest that he is having a strong impact, and his involvement in a goal in each and every one of those is perfect evidence he should continue to start.
