‘No way’: Club director insists Chelsea will not be signing his star player in January

Napoli director Meluso has claimed that there is no chance his side will be selling Victor Osimhen during the January transfer window.

He told Fabrizio Romano that they would not entertain the decision, meaning Chelsea will have to look elsewhere if they are hoping to make a signing in the position during the upcoming transfer window.

Osimhen has been a long-term target of the Blues following his sensational campaign with Napoli on their way to Serie A glory.

However, recent antics may have given them encouragement that he would be open to making a switch in the coming months.

The club have repetitively angered the striker, leaving him unhappy with his current situation at Napoli.

Despite likely actually wanting to leave, Meluso has confirmed there is no chance this would happen in the middle of the season.

Osimhen not leaving in January

He said: “No, no way. Absolutely not. Our squad is very good and we feel relaxed. Of course we can improve it but it will discuss this topic later.”

If the Blues are serious about adding a striker to their ranks during the winter transfer window, they may need to look no further than down the road in West London.

Brentford star Ivan Toney is likely to be on the move, and he can return to football in January after serving his current FA ban.

There have already been reports that a number of top Premier League sides are going to be interested in a deal for the Englishman, with his destination likely to remain in London.

With his experience in the Premier League clearly trumping that of Osimhen’s, the signing of him could be less of a risk on who will hit the ground running at Stamford Bridge.
