'Sloppy': BBC pundit critical of £110k-a-week Chelsea star during yesterday's loss against Newcastle
Chelsea suffered a pretty firm defeat during yesterday’s trip to Newcastle United.
The Blues were beaten 4-1 at St James’ Park in this weekend’s Premier League fixture, which leaves them on just 16 points from 13 games.
There’s no doubt that this month’s international break interrupted at the worst time when the team was finding some rhythm, so it may feel like they’re back to square one after a deflating result at Newcastle.
Hopefully, Mauricio Pochettino’s side can bounce back in positive fashion next Sunday versus Brighton.

Thiago Silva with unrecognisable mistake
Thiago Silva, who’s now 39, made a rare howler in defence to gift Newcastle one of their goals in Saturday’s 4-1 thrasing.
It was a lapse in concentration for the error and a real off-day for the veteran defender, who’s still showed his quality in general this season.
BBC pundit Chris Waddle criticised the £110,000-a-week star (Spotrac) after yesterday’s costly mistake, with Joelinton capitalising to make it 3-1 at the time. In fairness, it’s hard to defend him on this one.
“Thiago Silva is the one who is the culprit. I don’t know what’s going through his head. He just loses his bearings. He plays a really sloppy ball and it is an easy, easy goal for Joelinton,” Waddle told BBC Radio 5 Live (4:24pm, 25 November).
Speaking on Instagram last night, Thiago Silva showed real character to apologise to supporters.
There’s no doubt that the result, along with the team’s performance, is going to eat away at supporters over the next few days. A busy festive schedule is around the corner with a chance to try respond, though.
Sloppy day at the office
Pochettino’s job is now to dissect what went wrong at Newcastle before reenergising the group for Brighton.
The reality is that too many of the players on the pitch dipped below their standards, something you could say about everyone in that second-half.
They’ve shown as a group in recent weeks the level they’re capable on one matchday, but they won’t be taken serious until they can find that consistently to help them climb the league table.
