‘Massive impact’: Mauricio Pochettino hails ‘unbelievable’ Chelsea player after Sheffield United win
Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino says he is really pleased with Conor Gallagher following the Blues’ 2-0 win against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Conor Gallagher started the game and captained Chelsea in the absence of Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
He has been a key player for the team this season and Mauricio Pochettino praised him for his “unbelievable commitment” when talking to talkSPORT after the match.
Gallagher has only missed one Premier League match under Pochettino, which was because of suspension, showing just how important he has been for his manager.

Pochettino was initially asked about Gallagher’s contract situation, with his existing deal expiring next year.
In response, the Argentine side: “At the moment, Conor should be an important player who is still with us so that is the feeling now between the club and the player.
“I am really, really pleased because of his unbelievable commitment, he is one of the captains. He has a massive impact in the game. He is a box to box player and we are so happy with his performance.”

Conor Gallagher’s unbelievable commitment
Pochettino is right to highlight Gallagher’s commitment. There probably is not a Chelsea player who works as hard as or is more determined than the 23-year-old.
You can really see the above with some his defensive numbers. For example, Gallagher is currently making 2.8 tackles per game, which is the second-highest average in the Blues’ squad (WhoScored).
He can be a bit overzealous at times, evident from his average of 2.3 fouls per game, but some Chelsea fans might like that.
In a period where the team are being rolled over so easily, the Stamford Bridge faithful perhaps enjoy watching a bit of fight from Gallagher. It is important that the England international does not overstep the mark, though, already being sent off once in the Premier League this season.
