'Maybe': Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino shares when Romeo Lavia could be fit again
Mauricio Pochettino has provided a fitness update on Chelsea star Romeo Lavia.
The Blues agreed a £58million deal (Sky Sports) in the summer to sign Romeo Lavia from Southampton, but we’re yet to even see him play in Chelsea colours.
Unfortunately, the 19-year-old midfielder has been sat on the sidelines through injury for the first half of the season.
His absence, along with Christopher Nkunku’s, has been a real source of frustration. Fortunately, speaking via Football.London this week, Pochettino shared that Nkunku will be in Chelsea’s squad on Saturday at home to Sheffield United.

Mauricio Pochettino update
Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino did make a fresh comment on Lavia’s return from injury during yesterday’s press conference.
Apparently, the Belgian teenager could be fit again within seven to 10 days.
“Romeo Lavia will be fit in maybe one week or 10 days,” Pochettino said via Football London.
If true, Lavia could miss Premier League games against Sheffield United (today) and Wolverhampton Wanderers (Christmas Eve). There’s also a very important Carabao Cup quarter-final versus Newcastle United next Tuesday, too.
Could Lavia make his Chelsea debut when they host Crystal Palace on 27 December?
Romeo Lavia return
Our feeling is that Lavia’s introduction to this Chelsea line-up could be crucial.
Of course, let’s remember he’s still only a youngster with minimal experience. He’s going to need time to get up to full speed, too.
However, he’s an out-and-out defensive midfielder that could play the No 6 position perfectly in Pochettino’s system. He proved his quality in bucket loads at Southampton last season.
With Lavia at the base of midfield, Moises Caicedo becomes a genuine option to push forward into a box-to-box position, which suits his strengths far greater.
TEAMtalk reported last month that there’s actually real excitement about both Lavia and Nkunku ahead of their imminent returns to fitness. Hopefully, they can help turn the tide after a really inconsistent few months.
