'Not going to accept that': TalkSPORT pundit makes claim about Mauricio Pochettino's job at Chelsea

Dean Saunders has made an interesting claim about Mauricio Pochettino’s job at Chelsea.

We’ve seen the Blues ownership quickly lose faith in managers during their short time at Stamford Bridge so far, turning to Mauricio Pochettino as the new head coach in the summer.

Unfortunately, it’s been a challenging first half of the season for Chelsea.

There’s been the real positive of reaching the Carabao Cup semi-finals, where they’ll face Championship club Middlesbrough in the two-legged tie. However, the fact they sit 10th in the Premier League table is very alarming.

TalkSPORT pundit Dean Saunders suggests that Pochettino’s position at Chelsea may soon be under real threat. In fact, he claims that his side’s 2-1 win over Crystal Palace last night may have helped bide him some time.

Saunders told talkSPORT: “That three points, what it does for Pochettino, gives him another two weeks.”

Jamie O’Hara responded: “I don’t think he’s under pressure.”

Saunders added: “If he had lost last night, he would have been. Chelsea can’t be 10th in the league, you’ve spent £1b. They’re not going to accept that, the owners or the fans.”

Mauricio Pochettino under pressure

We’re not entirely sure what to expect from the Chelsea hierarchy with regards to Pochettino’s spot in the manager’s dugout, but the supporters must be growing frustrated with the mediocrity in the league.

TalkSPORT reported earlier in December that Pochettino retained the faith of Chelsea’s players in the dressing room amid a poor run of results.

Meanwhile, journalist Ben Jacobs said via X this month that Pochettino will get more of a say when it comes to Chelsea’s transfer business in January. However, co-sporting directors Laurence Stewart and Paul Winstanley still very much still leading things on the transfer front.

This is a very young group at Stamford Bridge and it was never going to be a smooth ride this year, but we do feel like Pochettino can squeeze more out of them going into the second half of the season. We’re not sure what good making a chance in the dugout would do at this moment in time.
