Report: £45m player still wants to stay at Chelsea although the club could sell him next month

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher wants to stay at Stamford Bridge but faces being sold in the January transfer window.

That is according to a report from 90min.

While it claims that Conor Gallagher wants to remain in west London, the outlet has also alleged that Chelsea could be forced to sell him because of his contract situation.

The 23-year-old’s existing deal expires in 2025 and he appears to be no closer to putting pen to paper on a new one.

Yesterday, the Daily Mail reported that Chelsea actually held talks with London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United over the potential sale of Gallagher during the summer, but neither club wanted to meet the Blues’ £45m valuation.

Does Mauricio Pochettino want to get rid of Conor Gallagher?

That seems unlikely. Gallagher has only missed one Premier League game under Mauricio Pochettino this season, the 2-1 defeat to Manchester United, and that was because of suspension.

The Argentine has also made the Englishman the captain in Reece James and Ben Chilwell’s absence, so it is quite clear that he views him as an important player.

However, after spending so much money in the summer, Chelsea find themselves in a position where they may have to offload some members of their squad to balance the books.

Based on how Gallagher has played this season, that should not include him. But after interest in the England international in the last transfer window, there could be a market for him.

In terms of incomings, Pochettino suggested in the aftermath of Chelsea’s loss to Everton that the club would add to their squad next month.

With Nicolas Jackson blowing hot and cold, a new centre-forward is expected to be the Blues’ priority. Landing a world-class one in the middle of the season, however, is not going to be easy.
