'You'd expect': BBC pundit predicts how many of Chelsea's next eight games they'll win

Charlie Adam has looked at Chelsea’s upcoming fixtures and is optimistic they could be about to embark on a positive run of results.

It’s been a pretty turbulent first half of the season, which is why the Blues currently sit 10th in the Premier League table. They have at least found some enjoyment in reaching the Carabao Cup semi-finals.

BBC pundit Charlie Adam has checked out Chelsea’s next eight matches.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side wrap up 2023 with a trip to Luton Town this weekend in the league.

A busy January consists of a FA Cup third round tie at home to Preston. There’s also the two-legged Carabao Cup semi-final tie versus Middlesbrough next month.

Chelsea also face Fulham, Liverpool, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Palace in the league to complete the next set of eight fixtures, which takes them all the way up to mid-February.

Chelsea prediction

Adam has predicted that Chelsea could go and win seven of their next eight games to put some real momentum into their season. He’s picked out the league trip to Anfield to face Liverpool on 31 January as the only likely setback.

He told BBC’s Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily show: “Chelsea are a bit like a rollercoaster at the moment. They are in the Carabao Cup semi-final and you’d expect them to beat Middlesbrough. Their next few games are Luton, Preston, Middlesbrough, Fulham, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Wolves and Crystal Palace.

“You’d expect Chelsea to win every game there apart from the Liverpool match. If they can come through that period by winning every game, they’ll be in a cup final, they’ll be higher in the league and really kicking on for the second half of the season.”

On paper, Chelsea should be rubbing their hands together and feel good going into the New Year.

However, there’s very little evidence from the season so far that this squad can put together any kind of winning run.

It may be a tough ask to force their way into the European picture in the league, but both domestic cup competitions present a huge chance to win silverware.
