'He would fit well': Darren Bent urges Chelsea to sign £18m striker they reportedly want

Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson would be a great signing for Chelsea.

That is according to talkSPORT pundit Darren Bent.

Newcastle frontman Callum Wilson, 31, has been linked with a potential switch to Stamford Bridge during this January transfer window.

FootballTransfers claimed earlier this week that Chelsea hold an interest in signing Magpies centre-forward Wilson. Apparently, the Blues are weighing up meeting Newcastle’s £18 million asking price.

Meanwhile, The Daily Mail said that West Ham and AC Milan also like Wilson.

Bent has reacted to the Wilson speculation by claiming he’d be a great addition for Chelsea or West Ham this month.

“I really like Callum Wilson. Big fan of his… Whenever he seems to play, always seems to score,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“I think he would fit well for both club (Chelsea and West Ham).”

Bent then added: “If either side can get him, I think it works really well. I don’t know why I’m leaning more towards West Ham, maybe because of where they are… Both clubs he’s going to start. If he goes to West Ham he will start. If he goes to Chelsea he will start.”

Chelsea should sign Callum Wilson

We’ve had a couple of days to digest the news that Wilson’s on the Chelsea radar. Our feeling now is that Newcastle’s forward is a potentially great signing for the club.

If he stays fit, Wilson’s a player that guarantees you a great supply of goals in the Premier League. His record of 86 goal in 215 top-flight appearances is a serious feat.

We’d like to see him arrive in the next few days and be the first-choice striker for the second half of season. Afterwards, we view him as perfect competition and cover for the moment Chelsea can go out and sign a superstar name up front.

Let’s remember that the Blues haven’t had a player hit 20 goals in a season since Diego Costa left the club.
