Report: 20-year-old Chelsea youngster is already in first-team leadership group, club think he's elite

Chelsea youngster Levi Colwill is already establishing himself as an important senior player during his debut season in the first team.

Levi Colwill, who’s just 20, is a product of the Blues academy that’s now in the main group at Stamford Bridge.

The left-footed defender is the joint-highest appearance maker in the Chelsea squad so far this campaign, so it’s obvious that head coach Mauricio Pochettino really likes him.

Interestingly, the England international is now believed to be part of a senior leadership group within the squad.

90min claims that Chelsea believe Colwill’s already an ‘elite defender’.

It is explained that the centre-back is liked by long-term admirers Liverpool, but the Blues have no desire to sell the academy graduate.

The report adds that the 20-year-old’s already part of Chelsea’s player-led leadership group this year.

Colwill’s proof that Chelsea aren’t abandoning the young talents coming through at Cobham.

The left-footed centre-half has been extremely busy in the last six months and had some challenging times, but we’re more confident than ever about his potential and future at this club.

It’s been a steep learning curve for him to cover at left-back for parts of the season. However, he looks so much more natural as a central defender.

We’re delighted to hear that Colwill’s involved with the senior core. In fairness, we could see him as a captain-like figure further down the line as he progresses.

TalkSPORT recently claimed that Colwill was open to leaving Chelsea last summer before a conversation with Pochettino. Thankfully, he ended up staying and the sky’s the limit for him.
