I saw £50m Chelsea player prove he should be the first name on Mauricio Pochettino’s team sheet

In what was easily the biggest game of the season so far for Chelsea, the players made sure they turned up to ease any pressure that was growing on them and the manager up to now.

The Blues won 6-1 at Stamford Bridge, with the job being done in the first half by an attacking home side.

An own goal got the ball rolling, before Enzo Fernandez gave them the lead in the tie with a finish from close range.

Axel Disasi marauded forwards to make it three after winning the ball back in his own half, before Cole Palmer exercised some demons against Middlesbrough by finding the net either side of half-time.

Substitute Noni Madueke made it six from the bench, as the Blues made a real statement to the rest of the competition.

In a team selected by Mauricio Pochettino that will have left Chelsea fans excited about what was to come, there was a first start for one player since all the way back in September.

Ben Chilwell played a key part in the first goal of the night, unlocking a deep defensive line with a glorious pass to Raheem Sterling.

Chilwell starred for Chelsea

With Reece James and Malo Gusto both on the sidelines, the full-back attacking duties lied solely at his door.

However, he marshalled this responsibility brilliantly, and looked back to his best as he brought plenty of threat down the left-hand-side.

With the winger in front of him, Mykhailo Mudryk, not taking his chance from the start, his threat was necessary in keeping a balance to the side that booked their place in the final.

The England international was subbed off just after the hour was played for Alfie Gilchrist.

The Blues will be looking forward to the date at Wembley against either Liverpool or Fulham.

One thing that Pochettino will now know for sure is that a fit Chilwell should be the first name on the team sheet for the final and beyond.
