Jurgen Klopp already hints he is going to drop one of his best players vs Chelsea in the EFL Cup final

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has already hinted that he is going to drop one of his best players when the EFL Cup final comes around next month against Chelsea.

He told journalist Lewis Steele that he is determined to give Caoimhin Kelleher the chance to play in goal, meaning Alisson is likely to drop to the bench.

Chelsea booked their place in the final of the competition earlier this week with a dominant victory in their biggest game of the season against Middlesbrough.

After suffering a 1-0 loss in the first leg of the semi-final, Mauricio Pochettino picked an attacking side to look to get the job done early against their lower league opposition.

They did that, and goals from Enzo Fernandez, Axel Disasi, Cole Palmer and Noni Madueke helped complete a rout at Stamford Bridge.

Last night saw Liverpool book their place in the final to play the Blues as they edged past Fulham at Craven Cottage.

Klopp set to drop Alisson

The game will be a repeat of the nervy 2022 final, where only a Kepa Arrizabalaga penalty miss separated the two sides.

That day, Kelleher was in goal for the Reds as they looked to win the trophy at Wembley. Now, Klopp has hinted that he could be about to do the same again.

Steele tweeted: “Jurgen Klopp says Caoimhin Kelleher is likely to continue in goal for the Carabao Cup final. ‘Caoimh is a top, top goalkeeper. I want to desperately give him opportunities to play, he deserves it.’ he says.”

While the Blues would clearly prefer to play against a Liverpool side without Alisson, they will be well aware that the side they played in the final two years ago got the better of them without the Brazilian in goal.

It is unlikely that Klopp will look to rotate his side in many other areas when the final comes around at the end of February.
