‘Prefer him’: Lee Dixon thinks 23-year-old Chelsea player has now found his best position after win vs Leeds

Pundit Lee Dixon has now claimed that he thinks one Chelsea player may have now found the position where he can excel at Stamford Bridge.

He said during his commentary for ITV4 Football that he believes Mykhailo Mudryk had far more of an impact on the game in the central role he occupied tonight against Leeds United.

Chelsea booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup with a nervy 3-2 win at Stamford Bridge tonight.

Mudryk late in the first half, after Nicolas Jackson had brought the Blues back level in the first quarter of an hour.

It was substitute Conor Gallagher who won them the game off the bench as the game ticked into added time.

The Ukraine international featured in the middle attacking role after playing the majority of his football in the left wing role since joining.

It has to be said that he performed far better than when he did after Conor Gallagher came on to the pitch, when he returned to the wing.

Dixon praises Mudryk in new role

Dixon has now claimed he believes this new role suits his game far better.

He said: “I do prefer him in that 10, because I think when he goes wide, if you’ve got a clever full-back, however quick he is you can squeeze him out the game. In the 10, he can have a little wonder.

“Sometimes you need a player in the team who you can just let do what they want. Sometimes you need to carry them, and he has two midfielders behind him who can do that.”

It has been a torrid start to life at Stamford Bridge for Mudryk, however he will be hoping his performance tonight has opened up a new lease of life for him to feature in another position in the starting side.
