'Have to work on this': Axel Disasi tells Chelsea teammates where they have to improve after Brentford draw

Chelsea defender Axel Disasi managed to score in his side’s 2-2 draw with Brentford on Saturday.

However, Axel Disasi was not completely happy after the game, with Chelsea throwing away their 1-0 lead and having to settle with a point in the end.

For the centre-back, who spoke to the club’s official website at the end of the match, Mauricio Pochettino‘s men need to improve defensively.

In total, Chelsea have conceded 43 goals in the Premier League this season, putting them in 10th for goals against.

Pochettino decided to go with a back three for the trip to the Gtech Community Stadium, but it was not able to offer the team greater defensive solidity. Disasi started on the right side of the three-man defence, a role Jason Cundy is confident that he can play.

Axel Disasi on Chelsea’s need to improve defensively

Disasi has called for the whole Chelsea team to improve off the ball.

Following the weekend’s west London derby, the 25-year-old said: “As a defender of course, when you play every game you want a clean sheet. We have to work on this. It’s not only about us as defenders.

“It is about all of the team. We have to stay together and to improve on this part of our game. Before the game we knew this team love to cross and put the ball into the box. They scored like this so we have to work hard on this and look to keep clean sheets in the future.”

Chelsea need to improve everywhere

Going forward, Chelsea could also be a much better outfit. They have scored 44 goals in 26 Premier League games this term, which is not a terrible record.

However, it is less than what the likes of Liverpool, Manchester City and Arsenal have managed, and those are the teams Pochettino’s side will want to be competing against next season.

Chelsea have been nowhere near the trio this term so can forget about catching them now. But in the 2024/25 campaign, if the team can improve at the back and in attack, it should take them closer to the summit of English football again.
